Traditions have passed down the centuries in the form of hand embroidery and are an indispensable part of Indian culture.
In Kutch, located in the western part of India, you will find embroidery in most traditional clothes. So why is this? Because people here consider it not a business but a daily routine. Even today, in small villages of Kutch, women devote some time daily to embroidery.
They also embroidered everything from handkerchiefs to sheets, shawls, and carry bags. This needlework is also called Kutchi hand embroidery, in which colored threads are threaded into needles to create various mesmerizing patterns.
The mirror is also used in embroidery here, known as KHAAP. This art is being transferred from generation to generation and is not taught by any school or institute.Ā Ā
